This image was taken at Lake Grasmere, a solar powered salt farm. Fresh seawater from the Pacific Ocean is pumped into this lake. As the water continues to evaporate, salt forms as a crust on the ponds. The rest of the water is pumped out and the dried salt is harvested, crushed & washed. The different colours of salt pools are from algae that changes to pink in the high salt concentration. There are also little pink shrimps in the water that thrive.  The contrasting colors of blue and pink fascinated me with this image making it a beautiful and subtle piece for a home.
