This image was taken at Lake Grasmere, a solar powered salt farm. Fresh seawater from the Pacific Ocean is pumped into this lake. As the water continues to evaporate, salt forms as a crust on the ponds. The rest of the water is pumped out and the dried salt is harvested, crushed & washed. The different colours of salt pools are from algae that changes to pink in the high salt concentration. There are also little pink shrimps in the water that thrive. I was fascinated by the varying tones and textures in this image.
